The cottage U Ledňáčka is situated in the marshes near the Bobří brook in complete seclusion in the middle of meadows and forests that spread around the Holanské ponds and under the Vlhošt' hill. At night you will be disturbed only by the hooting of owls, during the day by the cry of herons. If you keep quiet, you will see a kingfisher hunting over the water.
The capacity of the cottage is 6 beds (one double bed and two bunk beds in the second room designed in the spirit of a cabin on a fishing boat). Pillows and duvets are provided on all beds (weak - for warmer seasons). Please bring your own bed linen or sleeping bags. There are two 200 x 80 cm mattresses on the double bed.
The cottage has a flush toilet, sink and a wood-burning stove with hot water and shower. The water has to be drawn from the well at the cottage by a pump into a 220 litre barrel on the roof, from where it then flows by gravity. The water is utilitarian, most of it is seepage from the stream and it visited several ponds on the way to us. We regularly treat the water with chlorine. The wastewater ends up in an organic treatment plant.
Electricity and lighting of the whole cottage is solved through a 12 V photovoltaic circuit. You can recharge your mobile phone from two USB-A sockets. Those who take a voltage converter to the 12 V car socket can also charge a laptop.
For preparing food or water for coffee/tea and for cold days, the cottage has a wood-burning stove with a hot plate. The equipment also includes pots, plates, frying pan as well as cutlery and knives. Outside, there is a fire pit and outdoor seating under a century-old willow tree. There is also a pleasant seating area on the covered terrace above the Beaver Creek with a view of the Vlhošt' hill. There is also a hiking gas stove with a 7/16" screw valve. Bring your own gas bottle. There is a barrel buried under the hut - it serves as a food cellar.
The surrounding land is nearly 6,000 feet and is all planted with Japanese poplars. It is surrounded by the dammed Beaver Creek, which flowed through several ponds on the way here. The water is pleasantly warm and you can swim right next to the cottage.
From the cottage it is a short walk to a number of castles in the area (Vítkovec, Rybnov, Hostíkovic). There is a system of Holanské ponds with famous film locations (the film Hastrman, the sci-fi series European Tribes). You can visit the rocky valley of Peklo u Zahrádek (in spring for the ivy), Máchovo jezero, Bezděz or Ronov Castle.
The cottage is in a completely remote location off the beaten track. Parking is available 300 meters from the cottage, you can bring your belongings on the carriage, which is ready under the cottage. If you have a car suitable for off-road, you can drive through the meadow on a dirt road practically to the cottage.

The first access route is on asphalt, plowed in winter. The last 50 metres are unpaved. The second access road leads through meadows, is passable only in dry weather or if there is no snow and with an off-road vehicle with a higher chassis (Nissan Navara, Ford Ranger, etc.). In the forest above the cottage, a popular red hiking trail leads from Holany past the castles of Rybnov and Vítkovec via a goat footbridge to the Dolanský waterfall. Then on to the Smrtka lookout and Ronov. It is also possible to climb to Vlhošt' and continue to the rocks of the Kokořínsko Protected Landscape Area beyond. An interesting feature is the wild Beaver Gorge near Kravaře with a waterfall. And of course the rock valley of Peklo near Zahrádek.

Amazing place in a secluded spot by a creek, it had everything we needed. We really enjoyed it. The kids were thrilled with the cabin beds.
If you want to enjoy the tranquility in the middle of the forest and still have walking access to civilization I can only recommend
We spent four days at the cabin. The place is really beautiful, but it seems to have a life of its own. What is left of previous visitors often remains. The cabin could use a thorough cleaning - there is old scrap metal such as grills, nails and the like lying around.
It would be very helpful if the owner could provide an update on the condition of the driveway. We chose the so-called "outdoor" option, but it is completely impassable and overgrown with rose bushes. If you don't want to scratch your car, avoid this road. The second driveway, although marked as non-outdoor, is still quite outdoor, but at least it is passable.
The path from the car park towards the site is again very overgrown, and be prepared to wade through nettles. The barrow offered, which is written in the description of the rental, cannot be used reliably - it has a sunken bottom and you won't get far with it because of the terrain and the bridge, which consists of two logs laid down. We recommend taking as few things as possible, because you will have to carry everything on your back.
Another unpleasant experience was the tap, from which the water flowed out when it was lowered. After treatment with a savem, the water quality was corrected on the day of our departure. You have to cut your own firewood from the large logs on the goat. We didn't mind so much, and even chipped a box of logs and wood chips for other visitors.
Overall, it's a lovely place in more of a camping style. You are away from people and you can meet various animals, such as foxes and swans. Unfortunately, however, the place suffers from a neglected background. After a spoilt start to our stay, we unfortunately didn't enjoy our stay as much

Below I would like to mention a few things that we imagined a bit differently. Access to the cottage itself is quite challenging. The path through the fields and semi-decayed roads is of course quite manageable, but the actual path from the parking area is definitely not favourable. Apart from being relatively long, it is also in a rather unkempt state, not pleasant to drag things through waist-high nettles. We understand that this is a stay in the countryside, but surely there is a compromise between comfort and the impression of "wilderness". The area around the cottage itself could also do with a bit of refreshing and minimal cleaning. A few old barbecues, grates and tools lying around under the cottage definitely do not give a cosy impression. Not to mention the cobwebs on the front porch and also inside. Of course, these things may not seem important to others, but they spoiled our overall impression and we stayed only one night instead of two.
Complete satisfaction for the second year. This year, swans and their young came to see us, a rodent tried to steal our bag with ready garbage to take away and we even saw kingfishers.😁😁

Owner's reaction Každý rok během letních prázdnin nám na chatku jezdí hosté, kteří očekávají 4* hotel v divočině. Rozebereme si to: Starý šrot = tři mřížky z grilu a pár hřebíků z ohniště po stopení starého mostu. Dnes jsme vše odvezli. Outdoor cesta skrz pole je pro pick-upy nebo terénní vozidla typu Lada Niva. Ne pro naleštěné SUV typu Kodiaq. Jasně to píšeme v instrukcích. Vzhledem k nepoučitelnosti hostů outdoor variabtu příjezdové cesty vyhodíme z instrukcí. Vidí tam,. že dojedou až k chatce, tak to chtějí zkusit. Asfaltová cesta k parkovišti je zavřená kvůli havarijnímu stavu mostu přes vodní náhon. Most se bude stavět nový. Objízdná trasa je běžně využívaná místními chataři. Zase tak outdoor není. Jen tam není asfalt. Brodění v kopřivách je holý nesmysl. Pěšina z parkoviště je cca 0,5 metru široká a ano, kus vede zkrz kopřivy, které ale nezasahují do cesty. V kárce chybí na dně pletivo, je v ní proto deska, přes most z klád se smýká. Je to popsané v instrukcíh. Pěkná štreka od parkoviště k chatce = 300 metrů po rovině podél vodního náhonu lesem. Touto "štrekou" jsme k chatce dopravili 250 kg těžký septik. Nějaké to kilo na zádech pro nás není problém, pro někoho zřejmě ano. Úprava užitkové vody Savem je též popsaná v instrukcích. V případě velmi teplého počasí je naprosto nutná. Voda v chatce je rozváděná samotížně. Nádrž na vodu je proto na střeše chatky, svítí na ní slunce. Velké klády jsou ve skutečnosti metrové kusy cca 5 - 15 cm silné z velmi měkkého topolu. Kdo nechce řezat, může klády půlit sekerou. V okolí chaty je les a dostatek dřeva na topení. Stačí si ho donést. Prosíme potenciální hosty, kteří k nám chtějí jet: lidé, uvědomte si, že jedete do divočiny. Proto inzerujeme na Bezkempu a ne na Amazing Places. Chata stojí naprosto mimo civilizaci. Nečekejte asfaltku až před chatku, anglický trávníček okolo, nařezané a naštípané dřevo a pramenitou vodu v potoce, který prošel asi sedm rybníků, než dotekl k chatě. Odměnou Vám bude naprostý klid, pobyt uprostřed přírody a spousta divokých zvířat v okolí chaty. Vždyť o tom je filozofie Bezkempu. Chatka je na kempování, je v kemping stylu. Není to hotel ani penzion.

Absolutely gorgeous and cozy cabin hidden among the swamps. The autumn weather gave it a wonderful charm, when you feel like in a fairy tale in the hut in the fog. The hut is also superbly equipped, with board games for a fun evening by candlelight. Sleeping on the bunks is great for the kids.
